Creative.

That’s what we’ve gotten in this stage of our lives. Busy jobs, home renovations, and a busy little one make week-long tropical getaways nearrrly impossible. We’ve mastered the art of crafting 3-hour mini dates and they’ve become my. favorite. thing. And the best part is that we’ve honestly learned to appreciate these minutes together because they feel like GOLD.

This mini date is compliments of a last minute babysitter, scheming from my ‘Yooper’ husband, fresh ground coffee brewed over the fire, a bottle of stream-chilled wine (I chronically pack 3+ beverages everywhere I go), and Lake Superior herself. The January sky was gray, the water rust-colored instead of it’s crystal clear blue-green, and the air was ‘brisk’. But somehow it felt even more special to be enjoying this shore when the rest of the world is hunkering down and looking past it.

Nothing elaborate. Nothing fancy. But in my books – literally nothing is better than having Lake Superior to yourself. Ahhh these are the days. The days that feel like a little calm in the middle of a (beautiful) storm. My happiest self in my very favorite place with my favorite person.
